This week's Monday Mini's layout captures a beautiful sibling moment between my granddaughters, Layla and Remi. Taken on a sunny summer day in the backyard, the photo shows Layla sitting on a picnic blanket holding her little sister, while Remi clutches a bright yellow toy and looks adorably serious.
I love creating 6x6 scrapbook layouts because they are quick to complete and perfect for documenting everyday family memories. This smaller format allows the photo to remain the focal point while still leaving plenty of room for layering papers, embellishments, and journalling.
Creating the Photo Focus
For this scrapbook layout, I used a single photo as the centrepiece. The photo was printed with a white border, which allowed me to use the print itself as a photo mat. This is a simple technique that helps frame the image without adding extra bulk to the page.
Choosing a Colour Palette
When creating scrapbook layouts, I often start by pulling colours directly from the photo. For this project, I selected peach and blue tones inspired by the picnic blanket, along with a coral-red cardstock base to add warmth and energy.
To complement the photo, I added soft blue, peach, and yellow patterned papers. The yellow helps draw attention to Remi's toy, while touches of green reflect the grass in the background. Small accents of white help balance the brighter colours and keep the focus on the photo.
Embellishment Details
One of my favourite ways to use up my craft stash is by incorporating leftover die-cuts and embellishments.
Die-Cut Title
The small "Love This" die-cut became the perfect title for the layout and captures the feeling of the photo beautifully.
Vertical Accent
A simple "Hello" embellishment on the left side of the page helps create balance and draws the eye around the design.
Floral Embellishments
Soft floral clusters with yellow centres and leafy accents add texture and support the colour palette without overwhelming the photo.
Birdhouse Cluster
In the bottom right corner, I added a sweet birdhouse embellishment with flowers and a tiny bird. This creates visual weight and helps anchor the page design.
Scalloped Circle Layer
A scalloped circle peeks out from behind the photo, adding softness and a playful touch to the layout.
Date Stamp
The date stamp records the memory and gives the page a vintage diary feel. I love including dates whenever possible so future generations can place these moments in time.
Adding Journalling
Journalling is one of the most important parts of scrapbooking because it tells the story behind the photo. For this layout, I used several small typed journalling strips tucked beside the photo. You can use tags, journalling spots, banners to document journalling.
I often type my journalling and cut it into strips rather than writing by hand. It creates a clean look and allows me to include meaningful details without worrying about my handwriting.
This simple 6x6 scrapbook layout is a lovely reminder that some of the best memories are the everyday moments shared between siblings on an ordinary sunny afternoon.
