How to Make the Little Ice Cream Girl Tags

How to Make the Little Ice Cream Girl Tags

These sweet little tags were the project we created at our recent Creative Day and they were so much fun to make. Each tag ended up slightly different depending on the colours, stencils and embellishments used, which made them even more special.

Products Used

  • White cardstock cut to 5 x 4 inches

  • White Gesso

  • Lindy's Stamp Gang Shimmer Sprays

    • Canadian Bacon Pink

    • Perfect Purple People

  • Purple Alcohol Ink

  • Isopropyl Alcohol

  • Gel Medium

  • Little Ice Cream Girl Printable

  • White Texture Paste

  • Stencils (Echo Park Sprinkles or Uniquely Creative Mini Hearts)

  • Script Stamp

  • Ribbon or lace trim

  • Kindy Glitz

Step 1 - Prepare the Background

Start with a piece of cardstock measuring approximately 5 x 4 inches.

Apply a thin coat of White Gesso over the entire surface and allow it to dry. The gesso helps the sprays move across the page and creates a lovely mixed media base.

Step 2 - Add Colour

Spray the background with Lindy's Stamp Gang Shimmer Sprays using Canadian Bacon which is a pretty pink and Polite Purple People.

Lightly mist the cardstock with water to soften and dilute the colours, allowing them to blend together naturally.

(Optional) To create additional texture and movement, add a few drops of alcohol ink and spritz with isopropyl alcohol. Watch the colours spread and blend, creating beautiful organic effects.

Allow everything to dry completely before moving to the next step.

Step 3 - Add the Printable Elements

Fussy cut the Little Ice Cream Girl images and sentiments from the printable sheets.

Arrange the elements on your tag until you're happy with the layout, then adhere them using Gel Medium.

Step 4 - Add Texture

Using a stencil and white texture paste, add some dimensional details to the background.

Some ladies chose the Paper Rose Sprinkles Stencil while others used the Uniquely Creative Floating Hearts Stencil. Both worked beautifully with the soft, whimsical theme.

Allow the texture paste to dry thoroughly.

Step 5 - Add Stamping

Using a script stamp and black Stazon ink, randomly stamp over on the edges and on the background. Take care not to stamp over the little girl images.

A little tip: place a scrap piece of paper over the little girl image while stamping to prevent the script from covering her face and clothing.

The script adds another layer of texture and interest without overwhelming the design.

Step 6 - Embellish

Finish your tag with ribbon, lace trim and a touch of Kindy Glitz for sparkle.

You can also add enamel dots, gems, pearls or small embellishments from your stash to personalise your project.

Final Thoughts

One of my favourite things about this project was seeing how different everyone's tags looked, even though we all started with the same printable and supplies.

The combination of soft pinks, purples, shimmer sprays, texture paste and the adorable Little Ice Cream Girl creates a sweet mixed media project that's perfect for tags, journals, cards or scrapbook embellishments.

I'd love to see your creations if you make a set of your own!
