History of Posca Pens

Launched in the early 80s, the POSCA paint marker was an immediate success among the artistic communities arising from urban cultures, and especially the Graffiti community.

Graffiti artists very quickly adopted the marker, which met all their needs: convenient and efficient, an ideal way of always having paint in your pocket when you want to paint in the street and share your creation with the public.

They gave it real popularity, which gradually spread beyond the urban space. Studio artists began to go outside and try their hands at street art, while graffiti artists started working on canvas. These exchanges between one artistic community and another are the source of POSCA’s universal credibility, which has continued to win over new users ever since.

The versatility of POSCA pens

POSCA pens are known for their versatility when it comes to materials and surfaces they can be used on. They work great on paper, cardboard, wood, fabric, glass, metal, and many other materials. These paint markers also come in a variety of sizes and colors that offer a wide range of creative possibilities. Whether you’re into drawing intricate details or making bold strokes, POSCA pens are the perfect tool for any creative endeavor.

Experiment with different surfaces and textures.

One of the best things about POSCA pens is their ability to work on a variety of surfaces. From paper and cardboard to wood, fabric, glass, metal, and more, these paint markers can bring your creativity to life on just about anything. But don’t stop there!

Experiment with different textures too - try using them on a smooth surface versus a rough one or experiment with layering multiple colors for added depth and interest. The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating unique and eye-catching designs with POSCA pens.

Mix and blend colors for unique effects.

One of the best things about working with POSCA pens is their versatility. With a variety of colors available, you can mix and blend them together to create unique effects in your artwork.

To start, use the lightest color as a base and add small amounts of darker colors as you go along. Gradually build up the colors until you achieve the desired effect. For added interest, try layering different shades of the same color on top of each other for a dimensional look.

Remember to test your color combinations on scrap paper first to see how they will look on your final project. With a little practice, you'll be able to create stunning pieces that showcase your creativity and style!

Practice control and precision for finer details.

If you want to add fine details to your artwork using POSCA pens, it’s important to practice control and precision. One helpful tip is to use a lighter touch when applying the pen to the surface, which will help you achieve finer lines. You can also try varying the pressure you apply as you work on your piece, allowing for different line weights and textures.

Additionally, using a smaller nib size can help you create more precise details in your work. With patience and practice, you’ll be able to master this technique and add beautiful finer details to your artwork with POSCA pens.

What to do if your Tip is Dry?

Are POSCA Pens the same as Paint Pens?

No, Posca pens are not alcohol based. Posca pens are also not oil-based pens. While most paint pens are oil-based pens, Uni Posca pens use acrylic-based ink, which means they are just simply water and acrylic paint.

Do POSCA Pens Wash Off?

Yes, Posca markers are washable once they are completely dry. Though if you have applied Posca markers to clothing or canvas shoes, it is best to have ironed the clothing or applied a protective waterproofing spray to shoes such as you would with suede shoes.

Can I use POSCA Pens on Glass?

POSCA is an excellent tool for all these projects: on glass, its colours gain new depth and luminosity, and it can be washed off with water whenever you want to start again.
